DOCTORAL contract

The legal framework for the recruitment of doctoral candidates in public institutions is the doctoral contract. It ensures a three-year fixed employment agreement (under public law) and a nationally-determined minimum salary. It allows higher education institutions and public research agencies to recruit all doctoral candidates under a single status, regardless of the source of funding.

Contract doctoral candidates benefit from most of the provisions applicable to contract civil servants, including those concerning leave, workplace injuries, training, termination and resignation rules and recognition within their institution. They also receive a two-month probationary period (at UPMC).

The doctoral contract provides the option of dedicating 1/6 of a candidate's working time to work related to the doctorate (teaching, consulting for a company or local authority, commercialising research or disseminating scientific information). The doctoral contract is governed by the Decree of 23 April 2009.

NATIONAL CHARTER FOR ETHICS IN RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The National Charter for Ethics in Research Activities aims to define the criteria for good and ethical science.

It applies to any employees who participate in research activities, including doctoral candidates, who must now sign the charter when they register.

UPMC DOCTORAL CHARTER

The UPMC Doctoral Charter, adopted in 2007, defines the framework for ensuring doctoral quality.

The charter defines the respective rights and obligations, as well as the reciprocal undertakings, of the doctoral partners, in order to ensure quality. The charter describes in detail all of the key steps in the doctorate process.

This charter is provided to all researchers and lecturer-researchers in the doctoral schools affiliated with UPMC and all UPMC doctoral candidates. The charter is signed by all of the partners at the end of the recruitment process, before the doctoral candidate registers.
