About the doctoral Institute

The Doctoral Education Institute (IFD) implements UPMC's doctoral policy by coordinating and pooling the activities of its doctoral schools, monitoring indicators concerning doctoral candidates and doctorate holders, staying open to the socio-economic environment, and promoting the added value of training through research and the development of regional, European and international cooperation.

The Doctoral Training Institute is a department of UPMC. It is governed by a Board and managed by a director, who is elected for five years and supported by an administrative team. The IFD Director reports to UPMC's Vice President for Research and Innovation.

The Doctoral Training Institute includes UMPC's 16 doctoral schools and two shared service centres:

  • the Training & Careers Department (DFC), whose mission is to assist doctoral candidates in preparing their future careers
  • the Doctoral Information & Registration Office (BAD), which provides doctoral candidates with tailored assistance in all administrative matters, including special assistance for international doctoral candidates.

The Doctoral Training Institute operates under the Sorbonne University Doctoral College (in french only), responsible for promoting the excellence of the doctoral degrees issued by institutions within the Sorbonne community, ensuring a high scientific standard of PhDs and providing them with fulfilling career opportunities
